Laws are a set of rules and regulations enforced by the government for the betterment of society. Many of them get modified, changed, or repealed as the times change. Some of them get ignored and continue to exist even in current times. Some exist on purpose, some due to hilarious circumstances, and some because no one paid attention. This becomes a reason for good fun and laughter among the people living in the region. Let’s take a look at such funny laws around the world!
Singapore
Singapore is known for its cleanliness and beauty. To preserve the quality of their cities, the government has taken extra precautions and banned the eating of chewing gum. So, if you are travelling to Singapore, beware of this rule! A pack of gum can be the root of your troubles in the country.
Australia
If you are visiting the Town of Davenport in Australia, beware! A law in the city prevents all its residents from walking backwards after sunset. The reason why such funny laws were made has been shrouded in doubts and conspiracies. Isn’t it mysterious?
Spain
Some beaches in Spain prohibit the building of sand castles, so loved by us all. This helps the authorities keep the beach clean and presentable at all times. To enforce this rule, the authorities have gone so far as to place a fine on the tourists who dare to build the sandcastles.

In Berkeley, California, it is illegal to whistle for a lost canary before 7 am. Doesn’t it make you think who whistled all over the town all night long to make this law happen?
Another one of the funny laws from California comes from Blythe, where you are not allowed to wear cowboy boots if you don’t own at least 2 cows. They take their cowboy fashion way too seriously, yet no one is talking about owning horses!
Another funny one comes from Florida where it is prohibited to fart in certain public places. This rule seems rather acceptable, but can also be considered funny because when have we humans had control over our bodily functions?
Ever read that joke: Why didn’t the chicken cross the road? Quitman, Georgia, has the real answer to it. Because it is illegal. That’s correct, in Quitman, it is illegal to allow your chickens to cross the road.
Barbados

I think it’s a safe assumption that we have all peed in a pool or the ocean at least once in our lives. If you say no, I say ‘liar’! Well, in Portugal, it is illegal to pee in the ocean. However, it is worth wondering who keeps track of this and how they do it!
Samoa
When in Samoa, make sure you remember your wife’s birthday because if you forget, you might end up in a jail cell. Yes, you read that right. In Samoa, it is illegal for men to forget their wives’ birthdays. Pretty sure many ladies would like to have this rule enforced in their own home countries.
Thailand
Some cultures are free while some are different. In Australia or the US, driving shirtless might be alright, but if you are in Thailand, make sure you are fully clothed. Driving shirtless is prohibited in Thailand and can get you in trouble.
A similar no-nudity rule is also enforced in Singapore. The law prohibits nudity even inside homes if it can be seen by the public. Although arguably, it could just be a general caution rather than a legal obligation.
France
If you ever happen to be in France with a pet pig called Napoleon, you might have to consider a name change for your pet. Because in France, it is illegal to name a pig Napoleon.
England
The land of everything proper has a rule for all occasions. In this instance, it is illegal for boys younger than 10 to look at a naked mannequin. Where lies the root of such funny laws? Who knows!

But in Cambodia, water pistols are illegal and owning one, let alone playing with it, might have serious consequences for you!
